Explanation

A logarithmic function is the inverse of an exponential function.

Form:
f(x) = logₐ(x) → aᶠ⁽ˣ⁾ = x

Key points:

  • Domain: x > 0

  • Range: all real numbers

  • Graph: passes through (1,0) and increases if a > 1, decreases if 0 < a < 1

Example:
f(x) = log₂(x)

  • f(1) = 0

  • f(2) = 1

  • f(4) = 2
