Explanation

  1. Equation of a line:

  • Slope-intercept form: y=mx+b

  • Point-slope form: y−y1=m(x−x1)

  1. Parallel lines: same slope, different y-intercept

  2. Perpendicular lines: slope = negative reciprocal, pass through given point

Example:

  • Line y = 2x + 3 → parallel line y = 2x − 4

  • Line y = 2x + 3 → perpendicular line slope = −1/2 → y − 1 = −1/2(x − 0)
