Rigid Transformations Overview

Explanation

Rigid transformations are movements of shapes that preserve size and shape. They include translations, rotations, and reflections.

Key properties of rigid transformations:

  1. Congruence: Shapes remain the same size and shape.

  2. Distance preservation: Lengths of sides do not change.

  3. Angle preservation: Angles inside the shape remain unchanged.

  4. Orientation:

    • Translation and rotation preserve orientation.

    • Reflection reverses orientation (mirror image).

Rigid transformations are useful for proving shapes are congruent.
