Explanation

In a table, inverse functions swap inputs and outputs.

Example table for f(x):

x | f(x)
1 | 3
2 | 4

Inverse table:

x | f⁻¹(x)
3 | 1
4 | 2

On a graph, inverse functions are reflections across the line:
y = x

This means:

  • x and y values switch places

Quiz: Inverse Functions in Graphs and Tables

  1. What happens to x and y in an inverse?

  2. What line shows reflection for inverse functions?

  3. In a table, what is swapped for inverses?

  4. If f(2) = 5, what is f⁻¹(5)?

  5. True or False: Inverse graphs are mirror images.

Answer Key

  1. They switch

  2. y = x
