Explanation

A vector is a quantity that has:

  • Magnitude (size or length)

  • Direction

This is different from a scalar, which has only magnitude.

Examples:

  • Scalar: distance, speed, temperature

  • Vector: displacement, velocity, force

Vectors are often drawn as arrows:

  • The length of the arrow = magnitude

  • The direction the arrow points = direction

Vectors can be written as:

  • ⟨x, y⟩

  • Or using bold letters, like v
